how to love yourself: step eleven

Why Fun Is a Self-Love Practice

Somewhere along the way, we forget how to play. Life becomes serious. Heavy. Full of responsibility, deadlines, shoulds, and expectations.

Fun becomes a luxury instead of a necessity. Joy becomes an afterthought. Our inner child becomes buried under years of adulthood.

But how to reconnect with your inner child isn’t about being silly, it’s about remembering the parts of you that feel alive, creative, spontaneous, and soul-led.

  • Fun isn’t superficial.
  • Fun is medicine.
  • Fun is emotional nourishment.
  • Fun is a pathway back to yourself.

What Did You Love As a Child?

My younger self loved making potions out of rose petals, creating my own “perfumes,” and experimenting in the garden with my tin-can “cooker.” It wasn’t about the result, it was about the pure joy of creating.

The things we loved as a child often hold some clues to what our soul longs for as an adult. For me, aromatherapy became the grown-up expression of that childhood potion-making. The threads never disappear, they just wait for us to pick them up again. So think back to your early days as a child…

🧡 What delighted you?
💙 What absorbed you?
💚 What made you feel alive?
💛 What did you lose track of time doing?

These are the things your inner child is craving now.

Joy Changes Your Entire Energy

If mirror work helps you meet yourself with love, then fun helps you express that love outwardly.

  • Joy is physical.
  • Joy changes your physiology.
  • Joy softens stress, calms your system, and rewires your emotional patterns.
  • Fun is grounding.
  • Fun is spiritual.
  • Fun is healing.

And when you give out joy, you really do receive more of it. After all, the word enjoy literally means “the joy within.”
This week, your practice is to let yourself play:

💙Be curious.
💚Be light.
💛Be a little bit mischievous.
🧡Let fun into your day in whatever way feels right for you.

Reconnecting With Your Inner Child Is Reconnecting With Your Essence

You don’t need to perform happiness. You just need to remember it.

And when you are more connected to your inner child, the part of you who knows how to play, laugh, create, dance, imagine, your adult self becomes calmer and much lighter. This is how to reconnect with your inner child in the most natural, heart-led way.

Let joy lead, fun heal and let pleasure be part of your self-love practice.

Journal Prompts:

  • What did I love to do as a child that I’ve forgotten?
  • How can I bring more childlike joy into my life right now?
  • What is one thing I can do today that will make me feel good, even for a moment?

Activity:

Choose a light-hearted, playful task to nourish your inner child. Here are some ideas:

🎄 Make a drink you loved as a child
🎄 Watch a favourite film from your childhood
🎄 Bake something simple and fun
🎄 Listen to a song you loved as a child and dance in your kitchen
🎄 Do something silly on purpose like singing into a spoon or wearing a silly hat
