Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but the good news is that there are natural ways to reduce it and regain control of your emotions. Here are five natural ways to reduce anxiety:
1) Practice Mindful Breathing
When anxiety strikes, our breathing often becomes quicker and more shallow. Take deep breaths and slowing down your breathing calms the nervous systems, reduces stress and bring you back into the present moment. The 4-7-8 breathing technique was developed by Dr Andrew Weil as a natural tranquiliser for the nervous system, slowing down your breath and initiating the relaxation response. Inhale for a count of 4, hold for a count of 7 and exhale slowly for a count of 8
2) Get Moving
Exercise is an effective natural remedy for anxiety. Even a 10-minute walk can clear your mind and lift your mood by lowering stress-related hormones and increasing feel-good endorphins. Try to walk outdoors for the added calming and soothing benefits of nature.
3) Prioritise Sleep
Good sleep is essential for managing anxiety. Create a calming bedtime by limiting screen time, practicing relaxation techniques, and keeping a consistent sleep schedule. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep to help your body and mind recharge.
4) Journal Your Thoughts
Journaling is a great way to empty out mental clutter. Writing out your thoughts and feelings can also help you work out what is really bothering you, which clears the path to solutions.

5) Use a Feelings Wheel
Understanding and naming your emotions helps reduce anxiety. The feelings wheel will help you widen your emotional vocabulary and make it easier to process your emotions. When you can name them, you can tame them.
